SOUTH SAN DIEGO'S BEACHES NEED YOUR HELP!!
Our beautiful beaches and coastal communities of South San Diego County are being impacted by transboundary trash and sewage flows. So far this year, the beaches of the Tijuana Sloughs, Imperial Beach, Silver Strand and Coronado have been closed 263 days due to sewage-contaminated flows from the Tijuana River. Making matters worse, an additional 35.69 million gallons of transboundary sewage spills have increased beach closure days. Join WILDCOAST and Surfrider Foundation's No Border Sewage Committee in urging our elected officials and agencies to take action for improved wastewater infrastructure and CLEAN WATER NOW!!
"Dear Senator Feinstein,
South San Diego's beaches are public, ecological and economic resources that give over 3 million residents in San Diego County opportunities to experience the ocean up close and all of the wildlife that depends on it, engage in recreation and enjoy their right to a healthy beach. As a supporter of clean beaches and improved water quality in the U.S.-Mexico Border region, I am extremely concerned by the lack of action on behalf of the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) and the ever increasing number of beach-closure days. It is critical that IBWC work with its counterpart in Mexico CILA to address critically needed wastewater conveyance plants, reduce unnecessary transboundary sewage flows and improve management of infrastructure that helps prevent beach closures. We urge you to compel the IBWC to work with Mexico to solve this problem once and for all!"
