In viewing the pros and cons to making the switch, it is obvious that concrete is the clear answer.

Asphalt is highly pollutant. Concrete roads last for forty years, whereas asphalt roads last for ten years. Concrete does not need frequent repair or patching work like asphalt does since concrete roads do not get damaged by the leaking oils from the vehicles or by the extreme weather conditions like asphalt does. Although asphalt is recyclable and can be used again and again by melting it, it produces lots of highly polluting gases that wouldn't be produced if we switched over to concrete. Also, Concrete saves 15-20% more fuel than asphalt does. This is because a concrete road does not get deflected under the wheels of loaded trucks, thus meaning more savings for consumers and less fuel pollution!

There are only two downfalls to making the switch. Asphalt is slightly less expensive and it helps keep roads free from ice and snow (which we don't have in SoCal).

P.S. There is a rumor of a chance to get plastic roads in the far future, but we need to have something better while we wait. I propose this happens ASAP!
