Diamond Pet Foods is a US based manufacturer of dog and cat food, distributed worldwide.
Pet owners often choose Diamond brand products because they use higher quality ingredients than other pet foods at a similar cost. Diamond manufactures under its own name and for other brands, including Natural Balance and Costo's Kirkland Signature.
During the period of April 2012 through May 2012, several recalls were issued for pet food made at Diamond's Gaston, South Carolina plant. Food tested positive for Salmonella, and made people and possibly pets sick.
Diamond has long advertised its quality assurance program. Consumers deserve to know:
How did this program fail?
When did Diamond learn of this failure?
Did Diamond react responsibly or withhold information?
How does Diamond track reports of adverse reactions to its food?
Tell Diamond, companies which use Diamond to manufacture their foods, including Natural Balance, and retailers, including Petco and Petsmart, to make all documents public immediately. Consumers should not have to wait years for court cases to provide the information.
Documents released must include plant inspection reports, food test results, correspondence between Diamond and public officials including the FDA and CDC, and a timeline of notifications to Diamond and Diamond's response.
If Diamond refuses to provide this information, Natural Balance, Wellness, Costco, and others should terminate contracts. Petco and Petsmart should refuse to carry products.
