Respected Dignitaries,

It has been observed that Go Airlines (India) Limited, has been involved in highly unethical practices of finding ways to cover their losses due to Coronavirus and Lockdown measures put forth by the Indian Government. Numerous customers have raised the concern that they would like to receive their refund on Flight bookings i.e. in Cash whereas, GoAir continues to push them towards a Credit Shell which is a distraction as the very best. DGCA’s recent Memorandum dated 16th April, 2020 explicitly mentions ‘The airline shall refund the full amount collected without levy of cancellation charge if the passenger seeks a refund on cancellation of the ticket.’

I would like to also add that certain customers had cancelled their tickets directly with the airline a week or two before the lockdown for numerous reasons (health, safety concerns etc.) and were levied a massive cancellation charge. Despite agreeing to accepting a cancellation charge, they wished to receive the remaining refund into their bank accounts however, Go Airlines has still not refunded their money. These customers after months of delay and waiting are now being offered a Credit Shell by Go Airlines. I would like to reiterate that not everyone would want a credit shell as a lot of people have financial obligations and would not be looking to travel in the near future. Only a financial refund would solve their temporary problems and it is highly unethical for a company to hold their money in the form a credit shell. 

Moreover, a lot of policies that Go Airlines introduced during the month of March to combat the panic, were again unethical. For instance, one of their policy catered only to bookings made between March 8th to 25th for a travel date of March 10 to April 30. It was a biased policy where millions of flyers who booked their tickets months in advance, were now levied a huge cancellation charge as the company ignored their well-being completely. 

I request the respected Board of Directors from the DGCA to look into all the unethical practices of Go Airlines and any other airline (if any) to help customers receive their refund in a monetary value instead of a Credit Shell. Customers have the right to choose and cannot be forced into agreeing to a Credit Shell.
