To brief you all about our struggles with a very bad road condition of the Vibgyor road, behind the Mercedes Benz showroom, Baner-Balewadi (Pune). This road is spread over approximately 1.5 kms in the residential, commercial, and educational backdrop of the Mercedes Benz showroom, Teerth Technospace, Vibgyor School, Teerth Towers, Saarrthi Souvenir and so on.
This area is hardly 1 km away from the venue where sometimes back, our prime minister had launched the smart city project. The condition of this road is very pathetic. We, residents of nearby housing societies, along with the parents of Vibgyor School, have taken every possible effort, from our side to communicate the concerned authorities for the construction of this road. We tried to reach them though the different channels (via politicians, media, social media etc.). We are facing this issue for almost 4 years now.
The condition of this road is worsening day-by-day, especially after recent heavy rains that hit the city. Apart from the physical damage to our vehicles, we are facing physical and mental trauma. Senior citizens and small children are badly affected due to the road condition. Taxis and school transport vans of other nearby schools are hesitating to use this road for pick-up and drop.
To add fuel to the fire, a few days back, construction of the concrete road was started on some patch which is left midway and kept unused. It’s blocking the movement of the vehicles on the road which was already in the worst condition, keeping a very narrow passage for crossing. It’s getting very difficult, especially during morning peak hours, resulting in frequent arguments between the parents coming from one side for dropping their children and residents travelling from opposite side to reach their offices.
What’s the use of paying heavy taxes to the government when our basic needs are not getting fulfilled? :-(
In the last year, on the occasion of Independence Day, with the help of local residents (including children and ladies) from Baner-Balewadi, we had done Shramadan to make the road available for temporary use. We had formed a Human Chain and done all the work such as spreading khadi, murum, and aggregate in the road pits and done road levelling from Showroom to Vibgyor School.
It’s very sad and unfair to see one part of the city is struggling for the fundamental right to have pothole free roads, good accessibility, street lights etc. (example, Mahalunge, Sus Gaon, etc.). While, other part of the city is getting ready with the road beautification project (example, Model Colony, Aundh DP road, Jangali maharaj road, etc.).
It’s logical that the government should first work on providing the basic necessary infrastructure to the citizens and then look forward to the advanced projects like bullet train, Metro, etc.
Using this forum, we want to raise our voice for the urgent need of Vibgyor road construction in front of the top brass in order to align with the vision set by our Prime Minister towards smart city and infrastructure development.
We have formed ‘Vibgyor Road Abhiyan’, a public group on Facebook where we discuss the latest updates on the road issue. Please refer the page for more details.
