Respected Chief Minister,

Government of Maharashtra

Pune-Mumbai Expressway and old Highway have been witnessing many accidents and deaths every month. Its been studied that 14,500 accidents have taken place on the 94-kilometre stretch of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway between 2002 and 2016, which has claimed around 1,400 lives.

In road traffic accidents, it is very crucial to take accident patients to the hospital immediately. Any delay in getting treatment can be fatal. Concept of Golden Hour is very well known. Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital at Lodhivali, started by late industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani in 1998, is THE ONLY nearby big hospital with required facilities to save lives of accident patients on Pune-Mumbai Highway. Similarly, for any medical emergency like heart attack, it is the only available hospital near highway. This hospital is LIFE LINE for thousands and thousands of passengers travelling on Pune-Mumbai Highway.

Besides that, the hospital has a large HIV centre, with a capacity to treat 4,000 patients and it has become hospital of choice for local villagers from adjoining 50 villages during emergencies.

However, this hospital has become DEFUNCT NOW.  Few days ago, Pune Mirror reporter had visited the site, confirmed the villagers complaints and reported that ICU unit is locked up, with the all the machinery and medical equipment stacked in the store room. The labour room is in the state of disrepair, with cribs for newborns standing in a corner under a pile of dust. This 82-bedded hospital is left with JUST FOUR DOCTORS now. Its CANTEEN IS CLOSED from 1st July 2017. Villagers alleges that the government had given ART medicines worth Rs 11 crore for HIV positive patients but not a single pharmacist had been appointed by the management to run the pharmacy. Its been reported in various newspapers that this HOSPITAL IS ON THE VERGE OF CLOSURE ANYTIME NOW. Dr Sanjay Thakur, whistle blower and ex Medical Director of the DAH, had unearthed many financial irregularities in the hospital management. But his efforts have gone in vain and he has been shunted out.

Whatever may be the real reason, if this hospital gets closed down then there will be serious problem of ACUTE SHORTAGE of medical care for not only accident patients from Pune-Mumbai Highway but also to the villagers, workers and 4000 plus HIV positive patients who are receiving ART care from the hospital.

Considering the tremendous importance of DAH for travelers on Pune-Mumbai Highway and inability of the DAH management for whatever reasons, to provide necessary healthcare services to the needy people, we are requesting Maharashtra State Government to take over the Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital at Lodhivali and set up fully functional ICU facilities along with advanced Trauma Care Centre. This will save thousands of lives in coming period. This hospital is worth saving because every life is precious!

Yours,
