Concrete roads around Parel ; no new construction to be permitted until infra is in place

The Parel-Elphinstone stampede on 29 September, took the lives of 23 innocent commuters. Apart from the upgradation and urgent assessment by railways in the Parel -Elphinstone stretch for which a few petitions are filed separately, the area faces several other burning issues.
The roads from the bridge in question to Indiabulls Finance Centre, One Indiabulls Centre, Sunshine Tower, Naman Midtown, and Tulsi Pipe road are not concrete ones. Also, heaps of garbage are a common sight . The entire situation worsens in the rainy season. We demand concrete and well-laid roads leading to these and other destinations from the bridge.
Thousands of commuters take the route daily, and the muddy road is filled with filth and garbage, alongside hawkers with food stalls. There are also certain slums along the way.
Also, Parel, Elphinstone Road, Currey Road and Lower Parel stations are not equipped to take the load of steadily rising influx of commuters as new sprawling business complexes come up every now and then. There are many new complexes - where construction work is underway, one shudders to think how difficult and worse the commute situation can become going forward.
We demand no new constructions should be allowed in Parel, Elphinstone Road, Currey Road and Lower Parel areas until a complete infrastructure audit and assessment reveals it is capable of handling more commuters.
For once, we demand swift action with defined deadlines and accountability.
