Tracey Chastain started this petition to Destin Park and Recreation Department and

The citizens, residents and visitors of Destin Florida need a public pickleball facility. The adjacent city (Fort Walton Beach) has 12 beautiful public courts that were paid for by the City of Fort Walton Beach. In the summer, snow bird season (seasonal visitors from the North) and major holidays it takes an hour one way to drive to the city courts in Fort Walton from Destin. There are many private subdivisions and condominiums that have pickleball courts in Destin but, you have to live there or be invited as a guest of someone that lives there to be able to play. That is simply not fair to the rest of the tax paying citizens of Destin. This issue has been brought up at city council meetings at various times through the recent few years but we keep getting out on the back burner while the City has taken 22 million dollars of tax payer money to buy up the beach for public use. This again, is two fold because many residents already have access to the beach so why do we have to spend money for someone else to use “our beach”? Same with the acquisition of public space to have a Pickleball facility or courts. We deserve a place to play just like every other surrounding city. Please help support us and sign this petition to help us get the courts we deserve.
