Designate Lake Holiday as a Golf Cart Community

The Issue

I am a resident of the Lake Holiday Community.  Like many others in our community, I have noticed an increase in speeding and safety challenges.  This not only disrupts our peaceful neighborhood but also poses safety risks to residents and visitors alike, our pets and wildlife which cross the road, and especially for the kids who have to walk to/from the bus stop.  To address this issue, we propose designating Lake Holiday Community as a golf cart community.

Golf carts bring many added benefits to a community, such as:

1. Reduced Traffic Congestion: Golf carts are smaller and slower-moving vehicles compared to cars. Allowing them in the community can reduce traffic congestion, especially during peak times. With fewer cars on the road, the risk of accidents decreases, making the neighborhood safer for everyone.
2. Environmentally Friendly: Golf carts are typically electric or low-emission vehicles. Allowing them in the community promotes eco-friendly transportation options, reducing carbon emissions and promoting a cleaner environment. This eco-consciousness can attract environmentally-minded homebuyers, thereby boosting home values.
3. Promotes Community Interaction: Golf carts encourage residents to interact more frequently. People are more likely to socialize when moving at a slower pace, such as when driving golf carts. This increased social interaction fosters a sense of community and neighborliness, which can enhance the overall atmosphere of the neighborhood and make it more desirable to potential buyers.
4. Safer Alternative for Short Trips: For short trips within the community, such as going to the clubhouse, or nearby amenities, golf carts offer a safer alternative to driving cars. They have lower speeds and are easier to maneuver, reducing the risk of accidents, especially in residential areas where children might be playing.
5. Amenity for Residents: Allowing golf carts can be seen as an added amenity for residents. It provides them with a convenient and enjoyable way to navigate the community. This added convenience and lifestyle enhancement can increase the desirability of the neighborhood, ultimately leading to higher home values.
6. Appeal to Retirees and Golf Enthusiasts: Many retirees and golf enthusiasts enjoy the idea of using golf carts not only for golfing but also for leisurely rides around their community. Allowing golf carts can attract these demographics, who might be willing to pay a premium for a home in a community that accommodates their preferred mode of transportation.
In summary, allowing golf carts in the community can lead to various benefits, including improved safety, reduced traffic congestion, increased social interaction, enhanced environmental consciousness, and added amenities for residents. These factors collectively contribute to making the neighborhood more attractive to potential buyers, thereby positively impacting home values.

By allowing golf carts to be used for local transportation within the community, we can significantly reduce the number of cars on our roads and parking spaces at the beach. This would help reduce speeding and address safety concerns, which are a growing concern among residents.

To make this possible, necessary changes must be made to the Property Rules and Regulations (PRP). We request that these changes be initialed so that approval from Frederick County Board of Supervisors can be sought to designate Lake Holiday as a golf cart community

We urge all residents of Lake Holiday Community and concerned citizens of Cross Junction to support this petition. Your signature will bring us one step closer towards making our neighborhood safer and more peaceful for everyone living here or visiting us.
