Make Hershey Schools More Democratic

This petition had 100 supporters

As an alumnus of Derry Township Schools, the District's treatment of students has always concerned me. Decisions are made in an autocratic manner, and students are denied the right to full participation. Furthermore the culture of Hershey Middle School and Hershey High School has been corrupted so that grades and tests are valued more than actual learning.

We can no longer ignore the lack of democracy and failed policies of Derry Township School District and the American educational system. I, Neil Muscat, will go on a hunger strike until the following policies are implemented:

1. The official abolition of the so-called Executive Council

2. The Keystone Exams must not be taken by Derry Township students, and they must be removed as a graduation requirement.

3. The formation of a Student Board, to replace or supplement the inadequate stooge legislature of Student Council, with the power to review and approve all policy. This Board shall be democratically elected by the students of Hershey High School.

4. The appointment of a committee, consisting equally of students and teachers, to review alternative methods of grading, and to restructure how Derry Township evaluates its students.

The quicker we can collect signatures, the quicker the School Board can vote on these four points and I can end my hunger strike. By signing this petition, you not only support the demands of my hunger strike, you support better and more free schools for Hershey's children. Please sign and share this petition with anyone concerned with the future of our youth. Thank You.
