I too recognize the oppression of formal/mandatory schooling systems. It has become a passion of mine to advocate change.

I believe in democracy. I believe students (and adults!) should be shown that their voice matters and that an active of political activism can inspire people to address issues create change.

This is a lesson in grassroots resistance that one cannot learn from a standardized test. This young man has the courage of his convictions. How many school board members will defy power and meet his reasonable requests? Test and punish to privatize our public education system must end.

Until school leaders listen to students and teachers all education reform will be pointless and wasteful.

I am a first grade teacher that has seen the steady to rapid corporate takeover of public schools. Common core standards were written by the same profit driven architects. We need to stop the takeover and raise our voices. Without our voices...who is left to advocate for the children? It saddens me to think one has to go to such extremes to be heard.

I'm in support of any cause which begins to STOP High Stakes Testing in its tracks. This student should be able to at least wake-up the ineffective news media with his well written stance. The public schools of America are in danger of becoming mini-prisons with the wealthier parents sending their children to private institutions which are not required to follow this archaic regime.

Because for over a hundred years standards and testing have failed to bring euqity to America public schools. All they do is give cover to leaders who lack the courage to do the right thing.
