Justice for George
In schools gender equality is said to be supported but is merely an illusion, if you look at males and females graduation statistics in Australia you will see that the female students graduate on average higher marks than their male counterparts due to inequality in the classroom and in the playground. Although schools were originally designed for males the pendulum has swung to the opposite extreme resulting in a generation of male pupils who are being academically left behind, this can be seen in several areas ranging from classroom management, subject curriculum and disparity in disciplinary action. We are petitioning the school to review the disciplinary policy in regards to gender equality and disciplinary actions. on many occasions the disciplinary actions in regards to the same situation has differed a long gender lines. for example if a boy hits another person the disciplinary action is a suspension and rightly so. However, if the situation is reversed and the female student is the perpetrator and the victim is male the disciplinary action is simply a slap on the wrist. Any violence towards anyone needs to be dealt with in the same manner no matter the gender of the perpetrator or victim. The same principle needs to also be recognised in basic classroom management. Time and time again male students are singled out and labeled disruptive within the classroom and female students who’s behaviour is similar, that behaviour is ignored.
