There is a big Ukrainian community living in Malta. All of us have our families, elderly parents in Ukraine. Due to COVID-19 pandemic we could not travel to home country and did not see our families and loved ones for two years. Ukraine was listed among the Dark Red list of countries from November and even since seems to not being monitored as the cases went down starting from mid November and this tendency is persistent.

As of January 9th there were recorded 6 new cases per 100K and 216 active cases per 100K based on 2810 new (daily) cases and 93,965 active cases within all Ukrainian territory among the population of 43,339,492 (open sources data).

We find this situation discriminatory against Ukrainian nationals residing in Malta and their families in Ukraine. Also, it demotivates those of us who are fully vaccinated, whos primary reason for vaccination among the others was freedom of movement and possibility to see our families after so long and difficult period. Vaccination campaign in Ukraine has been launched and working quite well. We, Ukrainian community in Malta, would greatly appreciate if decision will be taken in timely manner and Ukraine will be moved from the ban for traveling to the Amber list for Malta.
