Make John Gardiner Reserve a safe and inclusive sport & community facility

John Gardiner Reserve has been used as an outdoor recreation space by local schools, sporting clubs and community groups since 1991.

But the field and its supporting infrastructure, including lights and change facilities are now in a very poor state.  The playing surface is poorly drained and if left to deteriorate any further will become dangerously uneven, lighting is restricted to only half the field and the change facilities are not welcoming to women and girls and not adequate for modern use.

Something must be done!

John Gardiner Reserve must be redeveloped into a high quality, high capacity, multi-sport precinct for use by schools, sporting clubs and local community groups, relieving the pressure on other community sporting assets and allowing participation in organized sport to grow.

A redevelopment of John Gardiner Reserve is proposed including:

  • 12,482m2 of hybrid synthetic turf playing surfaces that would allow 70+ hours of use per week over one full size and one junior size field, more than triple that afforded by a grass surface;
  • lighting to allow training and play throughout the year;
  • a repurposed natural gully to allow storm water harvesting and storage and year-round watering of the playing fields;
  • an adjacent ‘Community Hub’ that would provide modern female and male change facilities and a multi-purpose function space for use by local schools and community groups, as well as sporting tenants; and
  • spectator terracing to comfortably support the hosting of National level competitions.

Please give your support to this vital initiative that will benefit Auburn High School, Auburn South Primary School, Bialik College and other local schools, sporting clubs and community groups!
