MASKS SHOULD NOT BE OVERPRICED

Though there is an increase in demand and scarce of supply of these masks, medical stores should not be prompted to jack up prices.

Prior to the nCoV, ordinary surgical masks were being sold for P3 and the more expensive n95 masks for P40.

DTI must monitor mask prices urging the government to inspect and open up warehouses of face masks to ensure that no hoarding is being done amid reports on the spread of the novel corona virus (nCoV) in the country.

As said by Laban Konsyumer inc. president Victor Dimagiba, the Bureau of Import Services of the Department of Trade and Industry should be able to identify mask importers in the country as well as their respective warehouse locations.

Republic Act No. 7581 or the Price Act provides consumer protection by stabilizing the price and supply of basic necessities and prime commodities and prescribing measures against undue price increases especially during emergencies.

It is already an act that sellers should not overprice goods especially during emergencies. As of now, the so-called business minded people tend to take advantage of the situation just to gain money. They're still thinking about themselves not for the sake of their countrymen.

As the global epidemic enters our country, we should take care of ourselves but how about the people who couldn't afford to buy an "overpriced" mask? Think of it.
