INSPIRE fellowship (Inspire fellowship, DST, GOI)is a fellowship/stipend given to full time researchers in some certain fields by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It has some existing rules and guidelines (Inspire fellowship guidelines 2016). Research scholars eligible for this fellowship are selected through a 2-tier process, namely provisional selection and final selection. Provisional selection is made upon certain criteria . For final selection, the candidate has to get admission in Phd course and then upload his/her admission details, research proposal etc. After this, DST gives final offer letter to those who obtain minimum 60 out of 100. The starting date of fellowship is the same date on which the final offer letter is issued. It may vary from one month to even a year. For example, someone, being provisionally selected, starts working as an INSPIRE research fellow, uploads research proposal in time, gets the final letter (if minimum 60 out of 100 is secured, else gets rejected) after unknown time (may be 10 months). Fellowship will be counted from this date of getting final offer letter. So, in short, he/she will not be paid for the period between the joining date and the date of receiving final offer letter. The economical crisis they face within this time are enormous. Even working for 5 years for as a full-time research scholar, they get paid for a lesser amount of period. Those who qualify the final selection, for them the fellowship should be paid from the date of joining itself.
