My name is Maureen Fry and I live on Lakeside Avenue in Burlington, directly across from Hula tech center and around the corner from St. John’s Club. (SJC). I’ve  experienced a drastic difference in traffic activity both residential and commercial on Lakeside Ave proper, versus in the rest of the Lakeside neighborhood. One important safety impediment with the increased traffic is that vehicles are allowed to park on both sides of the street on Lakeside Ave. Cars park bumper to bumper there six days a week. We are the only street in the Lakeside neighborhood that allows cars to park on BOTH sides of the street!

The Hula tech center is very successful and extremely active. Unfortunately, even though they have almost 400 Hula designated parking spaces, authorized for their tenants and guest, their people park in front of our homes instead of on campus

($80.00 a month)  or in the free Hula parking lot on the other side of the bridge which remains largely vacant most of the time. Parking on both sides of Lakeside Ave and right in front of our homes, makes visibility and safety a challenge every single time we reverse out of our driveways, onto Lakeside.

I write this Lakeside community request for support on behalf of, all of my neighbors, drivers of USPS, emergency responders, FEDEX/UPS, food service suppliers, 3 waste management companies, snow plow operators, recycling trucks, and especially those of us who live on this avenue and have to deal with the parking chaos and safety issues day to day.

We are petitioning DPW to install single side of the street parking signs on Lakeside Ave, just like it is in the rest of our 98% residential neighborhood. Community sentiment must be factored in their decision, and so if we come together with one voice, I think we can prevail for a safer lakeside avenue thoroughfare for everyone coming into our neighborhood.

I am asking you to document your support by signing this petition so that we can bring our correspondences to the next DPW Commission meeting on Jan 19th at 6:30 pm at the DPW office at 645 Pine Street. Those meetings are always open to the public, and if your available to come in person to help support this community request, it would go a long way towards convincing our civic leaders, that this request is important to our neighborhood and in the best interest of our community.

Thank you for being willing to help enact common sense change.
