Since being hit by two CAT 5 hurricanes, the residents of the USVI have been suffering from horrendous and expensive cell phone service! Over the past 5 months the service available to us has been marginal at best. The only aspect of the service that has been reliable is texting. Every aspect of our lives depends on the availability of reliable quality service, as promised by the cell phone carriers in the Virgin Islands. Most people do not have Wi-Fi, so the data plan on our smart phone is the only method by which we can connect to our family, friends, employers, customers and the elderly, who are very vulnerable. Our elderly residents do not need the hassle every month of negotiating or settling accounts by these providers. Their selective approach as to who gets what percent off their plan or who gets a credit on the next month’s bill is unacceptable. The community is fed up and demands that this problem be addressed by the department that is responsible for protecting the citizens from being taken advantage of by businesses in the territory.
