The police force across the US has used excessive force time and time again. The re-training of officers by state governments and local governments would entail that officers learn to use force when appropriate. Officers wear a badge which is known to have the motto “Protect and serve”, but how can our nations police do so when they let stereotypes and power poison their mind. New training should be mandatory to all officers across the nation, it’s basis would be to teach officers when to and when not to use force. For example a man standing in the street during a protest should not be thrown and handcuffed after being told to move instead nudge them along on their way. Running over protesters or tear gassing civilians who pose no threat is not only unjust but inhumane. Officers shall also be subject to questioning if any complaints as far as abuse of power arise for an officer. Officers should be able to handle the emotional and mental stress of being under pressure. Officers should also undergo racial training which would include courses about how races have been treated by police who abuse their power. It should also be mandatory that any and every officer from the highest ranking to the lowest ranking inform someone if any of their fellow officers have abused their power. We call upon the nations governors and the president of the United States, we the citizens of the United States are demanding change and the retraining of our nations officers, present and incoming. Police brutality not only affects minorities, but every race in the United States. We shall teach officers the way American citizens should be treated which is like their brothers and sisters, not like peasants. We are demanding our Federal, State, and Local government’s to try and rid police brutality from your nations streets. So much that it will be something of the past. We need to see change in our nations police NOW!
