Oughterard says NO to inhumane direct provison centres.

There was no consultation.

We still don't know whats planned for Oughterard but its was planned over years behind our back. Its possibly up to 250 refugees into a village of 1620 people.

Our doctor, schools and guards are all full to capacity and were not consulted either.

Local people in need have been denied basic services such as social housing and the safety footbridge for the kids.

We are a caring, multicultural community that welcomes diversity.

We always want to help people in need.

We do not agree with direct provision.

Its an imhumane way to treat refugees or any human being.

We are in negotiatons already with a recogonised charity to take a refugee family.

We are happy to do more than our fair share of the burden but we won't have this forced on us. Its our village. We will decide as a community.

The people of oughterard have already voted against it.

Nearly the whole village went to the meeting and practically the only people that were in favour of the centre were the people that own the hotel and the people running the refugee centre.

We organised a peaceful protest as a way to protest this social injustice and 1,500 people joined the march.

It was silent as the refugees in direct provision are being exploited and have no voice.

It was silent as the people of Oughterard have no voice as we were not consulted in any way.

It was silent as we have been subjected to a smear campaign and anything we say has been taken out of context and used against us.
