Mandatory Cultural Awareness Training for Police

This petition had 54 supporters

With the recent influx of black men being killed by the police in the U.S. over the last few years, we plead and demand as taxpayers and as Citizens, for the Department of Justice to mandate and enforce equal community policing policies in all 50 states.

These unjustifiable killings weren't isolated incidents, but rather recurring tragedies happening throughout the U.S., that have left the victims' families and communities broken, terrified, and actually questioning who exactly does the U.S. Justice System serve?

Currently, the Department of Justice does not require each state or police agency to complete annual mandatory cultural diversity courses.  We believe that by implementing mandatory annual cultural diversity courses, will hopefully help officers ease their fears, and development better relationships with people of color, within the communities that they serve.

According to the National Institute of Justice, as quoted on page 8 of the Department of Justice Policing 101 pdf packet, "When communities perceive the police to be engaged in biased policing behaviors, their trust in the police is damaged."

We would like to get at least 100 signatures, so that we can submit our petition to the U.S. Department of Justice. Please sign and spread the word about this petition to your family and friends. Let's join forces, and make something happen.

God bless you, and thank you for signing!
