Melissa Baum started this petition to Department of Justice and

My name is Melissa Baum and my worst nightmare came true on the evening of June 26, 2009. My beautiful, 10-year-old daughter, Lindsey Jo Baum was kidnapped and murdered off the streets of McCleary, Washington while walking home from a friends house. My beautiful child had spent the day playing in the sun with her friends. My beautiful child who had her whole life ahead of her. My beautiful child who was supposed to be home that night so I could tuck her in. My beautiful child who was so excited to turn 11. My daughter never got to see her 11th birthday. And I have been robbed of every birthday since.

From the moment she was reported missing, the Grays Harbor Sheriff department has shown inadequate handling of her case.

It took almost an hour for law enforcement to respond to my initial call, and Lindsey was immediately considered a runaway for weeks even though her phone was at home, she had no money, and she was afraid of the dark. In doing so they wasted precious time.

Since the investigation started in 2009, the response from the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s department has been an EPIC failure. Sheriff Rick Scott will not take my calls, the department will not release her casefile to me, or to any other agencies offering help with a case overview, such as the Washington State Attorney General’s office or even the Kittitas County Sheriffs Office where only a part of Lindsey's skull was found.

My second nightmare cane true with the realization that the Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Office has dismissed my daughters case as unsolvable. When I have called for an update, the Undersheriff Brad Johansson told me directly they owe me no updates until they have something to share, that I am wasting investigation man hours and I need to accept that cases sometimes never get solved and often even when they know who did it, it can’t be proven. This is not acceptable! Lindsey is my only daughter.

They have focused on one suspect at a time, taking literally years to follow up on other suspects and they do not have the resources to continue the investigation or do any new searches due to a lack of funding and manpower. Grays Harbor Sheriff department also claims they do not have the technology or capability to share the case file and they do not have the man hours for this investigation. With the vast amount of vacation and medical leave by all of the detectives’ there is even less time for Lindsey's case. For nine years GHCSO focused on one individual who was cleared through polygraph tests...9 years! They have showed an inability to focus on more than one "person of interest" at a time.

They have had a consistent turnover of Detectives on Lindsey’s case and fail to notify me when the change takes place so I would know who to contact. I have been regarded as highly emotional and distressed, and that this is an unreasonable way to feel about my daughter’s murder. They take my requests for updates as a personal attack and I'm met with defense or most often ignored all together.

It is obvious that Grays Harbor County Sheriff department is unable due to funding, technology, workforce and emotional capability to handle this case. Please help me petition to have Lindsey’s case taken over by the Washington State Attorney General office and her file released for a case overview. Again, I am asking for your help in getting Lindsey's case moved out of the hands of the the Grays Harbor County Sheriff!

I need justice for my baby girl, Lindsey. Her killer still walks free. Please sign Lindsey's petition and help me in my pursuit to seek JUSTICE FOR LINDSEY.

WE ALL DESERVE ANSWERS - who's child is next?
