What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear about someone your age being murdered, bullied or raped? Do you feel scared? angry? sad? Or do you just go numb? Or you just don't pay attention and move on thinking that it has become an everyday thing now? Last night as I was scrolling through my social media I came across a news that read "21 years old BRUTALLY MURDERED and GANG RAPED, in FARIDABAD" as I started reading further and got to know more about "the case", the intensity of this inhuman act frightened me to the core and I went absolutely numb as I read that was born in the same year as me and was almost my age. It isn't the first time when I've heard something like this but last night I was struck by great paranoia and horror seeing and listening to all that happened to and knowing that it's really a matter of chance or "fate" that it could have been and can still be me or someone I know in her place!
All the information regarding the case is vague and has a huge number of trigger warnings but to sum it up for you or , age 21, who worked as a Civil Defense Officer in Delhi, went missing on the 26th of the last month (26-08-21) and was later found dumped near Surajkund after being murdered and gang raped. According to a media report there were nearly 50 stab marks on her body including gruesome attacks on her face, neck, breasts and mutilated private parts. A man who claims to be 's husband has allegedly surrendered to the police and has been arrested for further investigation but there is no solid proof of this. As odious and spine-chilling as this crime is there is still no clear, credible report or information given by the police and much of the mainstream media has also turned a blind eye to it. The neglect is just another evidence of how concerned about women's safety and rights our nation and the system is actually. A young women serving her own nation goes through such heinous crime and still all backs are turned when justice is being asked for? How much longer this has to continue? How many women will have to lose their lives and face such vile acts till we actually start striving for absolute justice and punish the culprits instead of blaming women themselves, their clothing, age, race, religion, ethnicity and even character? When will it really be concern rather than the absurd theatrics of the authorities and the media? Is this too just going to be another #, another story?
