Why this petition matters

Started by Suzanne Marquardt

I am a Caucasian female from Detroit, Michigan calling for the Department of Justice to investigate the patterns of racially discriminatory/violent practices of the police departments in the United States. Not just Minnesota, ALL of them. This goes on in many areas of the United States and is often not captured on camera and then posted to social media. I feel the only way a police officer who racially discriminates or violently handles an African American during an arrest, is when it’s captured and publicly posted and provokes outrage. For our black communities that have literally for CENTURIES, been forced due to skin color to be subject to injustice in a world who refuses to correct it, please rightfully and ethically investigate every complaint and have some compassion for basic human rights. Stop the violence committed against detained, non combative innocent African American human beings. We are protesting because we aren’t being heard. They aren’t being heard and aren’t being treated fairly. I was raised that there are no colors, just people. People are people, as my own 5 year old son says. Racism is taught and learned and we need to be better than that. Any police officer who does something completely opposite of what they have trained for in tactical defense training that causes serious injury or death to a human being, should be thoroughly investigated, held accountable and prosecuted. Police officers are not above the law and commit crimes of racial injustice EVERY SINGLE DAY that never gain national attention. This is not a plea. This is a demand. What’s right is right and it’s about time this country gets it RIGHT.
