TSA pre check for Retired and Disabled Veterans
TSA pre check for Retired and Disabled Veterans
When I was active duty, my DOD ID number was also my Known Traveler Number (KTN). My family also had individual DOD ID Numbers that worked as KTN’s. Once I retired my DOD ID Number, which is still printed on my ID no longer works as my KTN. I don’t understand this. I realize as active duty and traveling I would get that benefit, however as a retiree, I still get military benefits, am subject to UCMJ since I am receiving a pension and can travel Space A, access bases and I would think after 20 years of service to my country, would be considered trustworthy. I don’t understand why I don’t retain the KTN benefit. I asked someone at TSA when I was at a job fair and I was told that the entire team that handles Pre Check are all retired military, which I have not confirmed, but they said you would think retirees would get that benefit. I just paid for pre check which was $85 for each of us. It was for my wife and I and 2 kids. I am in agreement that when children are no longer eligible for benefits, then they drop off. But I would like to see the same benefit that we had while active carry over to retirement and also be extended for Disabled Veterans. I feel that is the right thing do do for service members and their families who have sacrificed so much.
Please consider making TSA Pre Check a permanent benefit for Retirees, Disabled Veterans, and possibly Veterans. I don’t think if you asked anyone they would say that these men and women don’t deserve it. We can use USO’s in the airport, but can’t utilize a benefit that was extended to us while active. Most veterans say that they don’t retire or get out, only their orders changed.
