Imad Barghachoun is facing deportation for the breach of the character requirement of his permanent visa. We beleive that it is unfair that he is in immigration detention for an adminstrative oversight where his parents forgot to lodge his citizenship papers. Imad came to Australia as a minor, his parents and all his siblings are citizens. Until he was taken to immigration detention Imad, along with our entire family beleived he was in fact an Australian citizen. This error is the reason he has been in immigration detention for the last four years awaiting deportation. As a family we urge the Department to reconsider their decision to deport Imad as he is a loving son, parent, brother and uncle. He is an important member of our family who we and our children depend on for guidance and emotional support. We hope that this petition will allow the Department to see how big Imads family in Australia is, in comparison to Lebanon where he has no connection. Also that if Imad is released, he will have the support of every family member who has signed this peitition (with the exception of those unable to use technology), and that we as a family will ensure his smooth re-integration into society.
