Learning Devices for ALL students
Learning Devices for ALL students
During this lockdown period, contact classes in all institutions of higher learning have been suspended. This has led institutions to implement online learning so that the academic year can continue. Although this strategy seems effective, it has some flaws. Many students do not have electronic devices to be able to take part in online learning, they relied on the facilities that the institutions provided. On the 30th of April 2020, the minister of higher education announced that all students who are funded by NSFAS will receive electronic devices (laptops). This is the right step taken by the minister and the department but it excludes all those students who are from poor backgrounds who cannot afford said devices and are not funded or have been recently dropped by NSFAS. We are pleading with the minister, the department and institutions to also include students who are not funded or have been recently dropped by NSFAS, in the offering of electronic devices (devices) so that they are also able to engage in the online learning process.
