The Bairnsdale hospital services a vast area but currently the Oncology Unit is only open 3 days per week. This means that too many patients are having to travel to Traralgon or Melbourne to begin immediate treatment to have any hope of beating the disease. This not only adds a great amount of stress physically, mentally and financially, but can greatly impact on and slow down the healing process. Sick people need to be with their family, not travelling great distances for a chance to live. We have fantastic facilities that are not fulfilling their potential. We, the public, call for more funding to be provided for such a crucial service to reduce the stress on patients and families alike. Bring Bairnsdale out of the dark ages with its limited access to specialist medical services.
