Public hospitals in Gauteng, South Africa implement a very cruel and inhumane rule and regulation in terms of visiting hours in all wards including the Pediatric Ward, where small children and toddlers are left to fend for themselves without the love, care and support of their parents/ caregivers who are not allowed to stay with them (which is allowed in other Provinces) but in fact only allowed to visit them for 15 minutes between 14:00 and 16:00, these little kids in hospital have endured so much trauma and the fact that their parents /caregivers are not allowed to stay with them is so cruel and inhumane and goes against their basic rights as human beings and their constitutional rights as well, it's a known fact that the trauma of being alone in unfamiliar surroundings with only strangers (doctors and nurses) can traumatize the child and hinder their recovery,  the limitation of hospital visits by parents is a clear violation of the child's right to 'family care or parental care'. It is also likely to undermine the child's 'emotional security'. Furthermore, the other factors mentioned  are likely to either exacerbate or alleviate such emotional insecurity. Here is the constitutional rights of children :

The Constitution[2] provides that children have the right 'to family care or parental care' (section 28(b)) and that a 'child's best interests are of paramount importance in every matter concerning the child' (section 28(2)). The Constitution does not define a 'child's best interests', but the Children's Act 38 of 2005[6] sets out a 'best interests of the child standard'. The standard states that the following factors should be taken into account, among other things: (i) the child's age, maturity and stage of development, gender, background, and any other relevant characteristics; (ii) the child's physical and emotional security and his or her intellectual, emotional, social and cultural development; (iii) any disability that the child may have; and (iv) any chronic illness from which the child may suffer (section 7(1))

Please help change this inhumane and cruel government regulation that is causing more harm and trauma to the children in these wards and their families than serving any benefit as intended to stop the spread of Covid 19,  this rule is under  "Amended Hospital Visitation Guidelines for Level 1 Lockdown" but has  not been " amended" since October 2021 and is still in place despite the decline in Covid 19 infection rates and the decrease of Covid 19 cases in the whole country, how long must our kids suffer with no just cause or valid reason ? Save our children in Public Hospitals the pain and trauma of being left alone, increase visitation hours and allow a parent/ caregiver to stay with the child for the entire length of their stay in hospital.
