Dave Farrington started this petition to Department of Health and Social Care

My mum Iris, who is 92, has Altzimers and is in a care home. Me and my brother have visited her daily since she was admitted in 2013.

The Pandemic took hold in march and the government locked down all the homes competely, since then we have seen mum twice in 9 months. This is ETHICALLY and MORALLY wrong.

I, my brother and staff members have put safety measures in place to mitigate any risk of transmission but in november the government decided that if 2 or more resident / staff test positive, the homes lock down completely to visiting for 28 days. WHY? One of the reasons for this is that the homes are worried this if they open up and go against government guidelines, their insurance becomes void against any litigation.

WE NEED TO GET THE GUIDELINES CHANGED.

Nobody wants any of the residents, staff or families contracting this disease, but there has to be a balance of risk, safety and care home life. This virus is NOT going anywhere and could last for months and months, resulting in no family contact.

Visits of family members are a massive part of care home life and are CRITICAL for the health and wellbeing of residents and family members.

I want the government guidence to CHANGE to allow managers to manage each individual home so that when safety measures are in place visits can continue risk free.
