Why this petition matters

Started by Nnamdi Orjioke

The history of oppression on Blacks is not taught in a way that is extensive enough for many people to fully grasp and understand. Only teaching slavery and the Civil Rights Movement is only scratching the surface of the roots of pain that has been planted in the lives of many Black-Americans. Systemic Racism will help a lot of people understand oppression at a much deeper level. It will help people understand the reasons behind the poverty, the high crime rates, and the broken families in not just the black community, but in many minority communities. It will also help people become more sympathetically aware of certain animosities they have towards each other. I believe teaching this will help with the future of our nation in a significant way. I think the most necessary time to teach this is in high school because this is the time the youth start to gain an independent mentality.
I will leave a link to a 5 minute video that briefly explains it. Even though I knew a lot about topic, I still learned a lot of information that I have never come across. I believe having an entire unit dedicated to this will make a better future for generations to come.
