Every successful nation is a product of a good foundation of education. Every single leader came from great institution formed by exemplary academes and teaching personnel. This is why the government must really invest in improving the well-being of teachers in our country in order to continue producing students who may, one day, change the world. On June 18, 1966 the Republic Act No. 4670, also known as the Magna Carta for Public Schools Teachers was passed “to promote and improve the social and economic status of public school teachers, their living and working conditions, their terms of employment and career prospects.” In short, this law states that they will provide more and better benefits for every single public school teacher. However, with our country current situation, backed up with recent issues and news, the government failed to provide our dear teachers the benefits that they truly deserve. Thus, benefits and provisions of Republic Act No. 4670 or the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers, should be strictly implemented and enforced to recognize the worth and value of our public school teachers.

Since this law was passed 53 years ago, surely, the government has done ample things that will benefit teachers or public school teachers specifically. Teachers were given a salary raise in the past and they were also given less amount of working time. But, according to Addie Unsi, an E-Net National Coordinator, “this law embodies our government commitment ‘to promote and improved the social and economic status of public school teachers, their living and working conditions, their terms of employment and career prospects.’ But after five decades, teachers are not rejoicing but remembering instead how the Magna Carta has been a long-forgotten law.  In reality, the government lacked with funds that will turn the enacted provision into something real and tangible.

To make this possible, first of, the government must increase the salary of public teachers because they deserve more. Most of them are now migrating to different countries where their attainments are being acknowledged and appreciated. It may sound upsetting but those professionals are the ones being neglected by our government. They do forget the fact that they are the hope for the development of our country’s economy. In addition, they have the most stressing work for they are responsible for their student’s goal and with every success their students aim is their success as well. Respect must be applied to every public teacher for they are professionals too. Indeed, for you to be respected, you must learn how to respect as well. Some says, respect is only given to the person who deserves it but for me, everyone deserves to be respected. We are born equal, that’s what we must keep in mind, that no matter who and where we came from, respect ought to reign especially to those persons who wants nothing but for the best and a secured future of ours. Teachers, our second parents, be worthy of not just respect but love.

Teachers are an essential part of our lives. They teach us far more than reading, writing and arithmetic. They teach us life lessons and help us discover who we are and they even motivate us to succeed. As a result, teachers must be recognized not just by us but particularly by the government because other than parents no one else has the power to shape and impact children’s lives like teachers do. Therefore, increasing the salary and retirement fee of public school teachers could inspire them to do more and be more in aspiring one’s life. It’s such a win-win situation wherein teachers effort in complement to student’s accomplishment has the chance to make a big change not just for the economic growth of our country but for the success of one’s life. Lastly, the respect they are longing for must be visible to avoid conflict and broken relationship.
