Year 6 children are having a stressful academic year due to SATS tests and preparation. This cohort of 10-11yr old children have endured the effects of Covid-19, and as a result have suffered challenges to their mental health. As such, the freedom from SATS testing would afford them time to engage and enjoy their learning again, with a focus on positive mental health. A curriculum based on testing this year would compound this stressful time, and arguably increase their distress and risk of developing mental health problems at this key period in their development. We are asking for empathy and  a 'whole person' approach to development during this critical and challenging time.  In conclusion, this petition argues for the mental health of children in year 6 to be prioritised above that of their SATS scores.
