Stop William Torbitt Primary School becoming an academy

We have launched this petition to bring together parents, carers, the community and staff to protest our school, William Torbitt Primary School, becoming an academy.

Upon the results of an Ofsted inspection in June 2018 which deemed the school “Inadequate”, an Academy Order was issued. Our school immediately implemented measures to overcome the findings of the inspection and within a very short period showed improvement. The staff have worked non stop to show and prove it’s not “Inadequate“. In fact new systems and measures have already shown vast improvements in children’s behaviour and safeguarding which proves we are a school that can improve and excel into the future. The quality of education received by the children has always been excellent and their grades prior to the inspection was already above national averages yet still improving.

We are completely against an academy as  numerous cases of schools under an academy have evidenced failings, corruption and poor standards of education. Our children and staff deserve better, especially a school that has shown improvement. The business model of an academy is based on financial profit instead of educating our children.

We love our school and it’s for that reason we want our school to prosper, provide the best education for the children and provide the best workplace for staff.

Please support us by signing the petition.
