It is undemocratic to force a regional language as a mandate in the curriculum. There is no educational or social rationale for making this a rigor for graded curriculum in secondary schools. There is no value except the weak case of understanding or being understood by the general population of the state. Such a mandate creates divisiveness and exclusion within the country. Only such a language should be made part of the curriculum that promotes uniformity in communication. And as such, Hindi has been achieving that pretty consistently. Lovers of any language will continue to pursue it irrespective of whether it is part of the syllabus.

This move by the TS government is at best a statement of authority and dictatorship and should be contested.
