In India, where goddesses like Durga, Laxmi are worshiped, there is an increasing number of violence against women. Women who now stand equally in all sectors at par with male are constantly falling prey to eve teasing, sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence which are the weapons used by men to display their superiority. These weapons attack women from everywhere to everywhere. These evils have no boundaries. It doesn't differentiate between a 3 year old or an 80 year old.

Violent attacks are not just done against women but also against men. Robbery, murder, rape, homicide, etc are all evils that are existing in the society. Approximately 50000 cases related to violence are registered every year just from the major cities in India.

Due to lack of strength, women and men are able to do nothing against powerful foes and are thus robbed, raped, murdered. More often than not, the victim is not at fault in any way.

Self defense is a countermeasure which helps one to defend oneself from harm against someone more potent. Many forms of martial arts prove useful in cases against powerful foes for self defense.

This petition is thus written asking the education ministry to make self defense training compulsory in the curriculum of schools and colleges. Learning self defense from school will help reduce violent crimes and help men & women defend themselves. Learning self defense can empower men and women to defend themselves against various crimes and thus reduce crime. Hence we are asking through this petition to make self defense training compulsory in the curriculum of schools and colleges.
