Saxophones to be in primary school orchestras
In primary schools around the UK, there are budding saxophonists but, unfortunately for them, they can not represent their school in the orchestra there. Saxophones are typically in bands but very few primary schools have bands, it is usually secondary schools, but they do have orchestras. The only two reasons why it isn’t accepted is the fact that they were created later than the orchestra, which is not a brilliant excuse as so was the trumpet and that somehow found it’s way into the orchestra, and that people who make instruments usually go to a manufacturer and buy individual pieces and put them together where as Adolf Sax made his own parts. I, for one don’t see how this has any affect towards the saxophone and why it can not play it’s part in an orchestra. In addition to these facts, it will be in a primary school so people there are there to just to have fun and really don’t care about rules!
I started to learn the saxophone about a year ago but hardly any of my friends have heard me play as I can’t show them at school as there is nothing for me to take part in. I am about to go into year six and will not see any of my friends after this year so I feel as if I am really running out of time to show them.
One day I was in a lesson and my teacher asked whether any of us if we new any instruments in an orchestra and I replied that I was not sure but I still asked whether a saxophone was and I was told it wasn’t and that is what inspired this petition.
I know this petition may not seem as important as some other ones but I would really appreciate it if you helped me get saxophones into the orchestras in primary schools.
