Marsha Watson started this petition to Hackney Council

The Head teacher/Leadership team and Governors at the Soaring Skies Federation (Colvestone primary school and Thomas Fairchild primary school) have made the decision to reduce the number of support staff across both schools by Feb 2021.  The reason they state is due to the account deficit and falling numbers of pupil enrolment to both schools.

There are support staff and Teaching Assistants there who have provided over 37 years of loyal service, their experience and contributions are invaluable.

The Support staff/Teaching assistants provided key worker support during the covid 19 Government lockdown putting their own health and safety at risk from potential exposure to the virus in order to help NHS staff and other key workers during the pandemic.

There has been no discussion amongst the Leadership team, Governors or with Parents to find other solutions to reduce the deficit or to identify the reasons for the falling numbers in pupil enrollment or; what other less drastic solutions can be made to improve the situation.

We insist that other options are explored and set in motion to reduce the deficit and a plan in place to make both schools more desirable and; that Support staff/Teaching Assistants do not bear the brunt of the poor account management and operations management by loosing their jobs.

The impact of these changes will be detrimental to the Education needs and wellbeing of the Children.  The children will not receive adequate support or SEN support under the new proposals, not to mention the staff who will be made redundant during this global pandemic with very little chance of finding new employment.

This proposed action is drastic and unnecessary.

We need as many signatures as possible as these changes affect the children, the support staff, the Teachers who desperately rely on TA support, the community and other neighbouring schools.

Thank you.
