Knicole Smith started this petition to Department of Education and

US President Donald J. Trump and Senator Thomas B. Cotton are threatening to defund our US Schools if the 1619 Project is taught to our future generations.  Please let our government know that it is our duty to teach our youth the truth about the history of Slavery in America and it's impact on our culture.

Please sign this petition as one MAJOR step forward to ending systemic racism in our country.  Slavery was not a "necessary evil" as stated by Senator Cotton. Slavery was and has been part of why we, the United States, have not moved closer to "forming a more perfect union" as our Preamble to the US Constitution states.

History is important.  There are two sides to every story and each side of the story must be told if we are to move closer to a more just, fair and equal society.
