They say that 2019 is the year the world woke up. On March 9th, 2020, students will demonstrate that students around the world are not just awake: we are angry, and we are organized.

On that day, our mission extends beyond holding our individual high schools and universities accountable. We will rally on the steps of New York City’s City Hall, in solidarity with student occupations taking place around the world. We will challenge the system that has so often applauded our bravery, only to ignore our demands. There will be no state-sanctioned protests, no patronizing words from vapid leaders, and no academics preaching faith in failing channels. There will be only an unflinching pursuit to redefine our future.

To that end, students will wear clothing that clearly represents the institutions that have failed them, as they put their bodies on the line for three demands:

Decolonize. Our institutions’ histories are intertwined with colonization. Universities, especially through use of People’s Assemblies, can help account for these injustices by defining and implementing strategies for a just transition.

Decarbonize. Act now by getting Polluters Out, and divesting from fossil fuels.

Democratize. Implement People’s Assemblies. As the home of scientific experts, thought leaders from the humanities, and diverse demographics/opinions, our institutions are the perfect incubators to model People’s Assemblies, a form of participatory democracy that has repeatedly cut through gridlock.

We forward to collaborating with other campus groups, in order to establish a broad, resilient coalition. If your group would like to speak at the rally, or if you’d like to contribute to art, action, outreach, or regenerative initiatives, please be in touch.
