No Leaving Cert practical examinations during the easter break

No Leaving Cert practical examinations during the easter break
The past two years have been immeasurably challenging for everyone.
In particular for the second level students and teachers who have carried on in freezing conditions through two winters.
They have carried on with unclear guidelines as to the format of the exams they will be taking this June.
They have carried on with the constant fear that they are going to bring home sickness to them and their families.
They have carried on going into school while the infection rate of covid -19 is the highest that it has ever been.
Every single day is an exhausting amalgamation of all of these factors, combined with a lack of many of the things that usually ease the stresses of school.
This is leading to large amounts of burn out and tiredness.
Every single weekend and break is cherished and needed. Especially for people currently in, or teaching 6th year.
This is why the proposal to have practical examinations during the easter break is so distressing and nonsensical.
Traditionally, these two weeks would be available for students to rest and regather themselves before their final month of school. Why should this necessary time of rest and study be taken away in a year when rest is needed more than ever.
This is why we are calling for the practical exams to return to the previous schedule and take place before and after the holiday.
Sixth year mental health is vital. Please amend this decision now.
