No homework over a school break

Students need a break from school. The stress of school can be overwhelming and cause kids to become extremely mentally fatigued. With teachers assigning students homework over the weekend, at least for the most part, students can often find it hard to get a mental break. During a school break, like winter break or summer or spring break, teachers should NOT be able to assign kids homework because with no other breaks, even over the weekend, the students need a mental break. A school break is a perfect time for a kid to take a mental break. Family studies at the University of Michigan show that family time is extremely important to achievement and behavior. Studies on family meals suggest that students who have dinner with their family have better academic scores and behavioral outcomes. If a student spends all their time focusing on school they will loose this relationship with their parents, causing them to perform worse at school. Perhaps this is only a correlation, but family time is undeniably important to child development. Multiple studies show that when a child is not assigned homework over break they are able to come back to school after the break with more energy and often a much better attitude, feeling refueled from their time off. As a student, I am a strong believer in this petition as it will help kids take a mental break and relax.
