My name is Ben Blanchet from "Maybe Autism Is My Superpower".  I am soon turning 16 years old and for my birthday I am hoping that many people will sign my pledge called "meet autism in the middle".  Growing up, I  have had a lot of different types of therapy to help with my autism challenges.  Many times teachers and therapists would try to teach me how to interact with the "typical" kids so we can play together.  This isn't always easy for kids like me because our brains think differently and our sensory system is different too.  I always wonder why the the "typical kids" aren't taught how to play with us too. Wouldn't it be nice if we didn't always have to try to join their world.  I think it would be great if they were also taught about our world and we can meet in the middle! 

By signing this pledge you are promising to try to meet kids with autism half way in their world. If you are a teacher or therapist singing this pledge then you are agreeing to try to teach the typical kids to be more open minded about joining our world sometimes too. I bet you will be surprised by the amazing things you will see when you meet kids with autism in the middle.  Even though we don't always act or speak like the typical kids, we do have interesting and creative minds and we can do great things! I even think we have superpowers! Thank you for being willing to meet autism in the middle!
