Mandatory mental health training in schools before more children lose their lives
Why this petition matters

Mental health training needs to be given in all schools in order for them to understand their students. 1 in 4 people experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England, more specifically 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 10% of children and young people ( aged 5-16) have a clinically diagnosable mental health problem. I’m going to tell my story about my struggle with my mental health and the education system. My name is Joy and I am 17 years old. I am diagnosed with mixed anxiety and depressive disorder and I'm currently on a waiting list for ASC ( autistic spectrum condition) and ADHD ( attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). I have struggled with my mental health for most of my life however, up until the last two years it has gone unnoticed at school due to lack of understanding, because of this I didn’t get the right kind of help when I needed it which made things go downhill quickly. That was until I was in a alternative school setting that did understand and knew what to do in situations where I was struggling. Since being in a place that understood me, my mental health has improved and I’m more happy. I have personally experienced the difference between being in a school setting that doesn’t have enough understanding and being in one that does have understanding so I know the difference it makes. Learning how to understand mental health disorders saves life’s I know this because it saved mine.
