Janine Wharton started this petition to Department of Education and

My family need your help. Whilst many schools have adopted AED machines (Automated External Defibrillator) not all schools have access. We would love to be able to petition the government to make it mandatory for all schools to have at least one AED machine within the school grounds.

Our children are at school for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, that is 714 hours a year spent at school. Our children leave us in the morning, with a smile and wave knowing that we will see them again mid afternoon. Secure in the knowledge that they are safe.

What if it wasn't completely safe? What happens when your child suddenly stops breathing? What happens when our child's heart suddenly stops beating? Hard to think about isn't it?

In an ideal world this sort of stuff doesn't happen to us, it only happens to your friend's brother's ex-girlfriend's cats previous owner's child. I have 4 children, my eldest is a normal happy healthy young man of 13 years old. he loves space, science and making videos with his younger siblings and his friends. or he was!!! He passed away during the night on 5th of December 2018. When despite all efforts he died. He died from un-diagnosed unspecified sudden cardiac death. Or SADs . We had no idea he may have had a problem with his heart, no symptoms, no reason, just gone.

Now in the U.K, the average time for Paramedics to arrive on scene is  7 minutes, and in order to have a hope of re-starting the heart rhythm CPR and AED need to be used within 3 minutes, otherwise the brain is starved of oxygen.

This little machine can be used by a complete novice, as the machine speaks to the user, no training is required in order to use these machines and its the difference between life and death, surely our children deserve that?

We need to encourage the government to mandate that all schools have access to an AED which is on school grounds. if we look after children its required to have at least a basic first aid kit, an AED is part of basic first aid, shouldn't they be included?
