Making Mental Health A Class Requirement in Schools

Each year we step into the future more and more people have been realizing the importance of mental health. Sadly, this realization is at the expense of the increasing number of people who have lost their lives to suicide. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people ages 10-34. Mental illness is way more common than people know, and that is without accounting for people who are too scared of the possible judgement to even come forward. 1 in 5 Americans experience mental Illness every year, which is around 51 million people in our country alone. These numbers need to drop and the only way we can create change is by going big and doing something different. I think a great start to changing the worlds perception on mental health, also while creating a solution for the problem would be making it part of our school’s curriculum. If all schools taught a mental health class similar to your other subjects such as math & reading I think it can help the world a great deal. In doing this it would create so many solutions to so many problems caused by mental health issues by simply preventing them. If we gave everyone the right tools at the beginning of life to handle their emotions and mental health I truly believe the world would be a better place.
