Steve Lewetto started this petition to Department of Education
Over 85% of public Middle and High Schools in the U.S start before 8:30 am. Yet, numerous health organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, recommend that most middle and high schools should start at 8:30 or later in order to allow students to get the recommended 8 to 9 hours of sleep.
At my High School, school starts at 7:30. Unfortunately, I tend to fall asleep around 12 or 1pm each night. And if I need to wake up at 6:30, at the latest, I’m only getting around 5 to 6 hours of sleep per night, which is far from a.m healthy amount.
By signing this petition, you express your opposition to this issue, hopefully aiding a universal change in the school system.
