Highschools start later than 7 am
This change would impact high school students because teenagers need more sleep than other school-age groups, Elementry age students could start at 7 (and therefore also making it easier for parents to drop them off since they currently start at about 8:15 and most parents might have to leave by then)
Yes, it might be an issue for students with afterschool jobs, but as I've learned people in the area I am located in don't want to hire anyone under 18.
The people affected are sleep deprived teenagers because people in that age group physically need more sleep to finish developing their brain, with sleep deprivation its harder to focus in school, and in that issue, it brings down performance and that in turn brings down the schools testing numbers
Some would argue that if teenagers need more sleep they should go to bed earlier, but with the 8 hour school days they currently have, and then expected study hours of ~45 minutes per subject, with at least 4 core subjects, that's 3 extra hours of work, which barely leaves time for anything other than that if they're supposed to go to bed early and wake up at about 6-6:15 am!
Even with the study time, which is separate from possible assigned homework. Students get out of school at about 2:45 pm, and with 3 hours of study time, that's 5:45 pm, the average homework time per day is 3-5 hours for an average student. So students would be expected to go to bed at about 8:45-10:45, leaving absolutely no time for hobbies that the student enjoys.
If you notice, adults with full-time 8 hour jobs aren't forced or pressured to work more outside of the 8-hour time frame of their full-time job, while in high school you're forced to work one 8-hour "job", and then expected to work 6-8 more hours for the original "job"
Please change the school schedules for the sake of the high schoolers and their mental stability.
