We as high school students are told to speak our minds to try and change the mess ups in our society so I say we do. High school students are expected to get up early in the morning, go to school, do tons of work for 7 straight hours, do any extracurricular activities and or sports, and do homework during whatever time we have left of the night. We get 2 days off school but if you are part of the working students you usually work then too. Not only that but we have the stress of our parents and ourselves to do the best work we can 25/8. However, if we are sleep deprived from staying up to do homework because we had an extracurricular yesterday after school then we will not be capable of doing our best. If we keep spreading ourselves too thin then we will all end up suffering for it. This affects students and parents because the more stress the students are under the less patience they will have with everyone. We are constantly exhausted from lack of sleep and not having a break. Y’all may think “oh y’all are on your phones all day that’s why” no it’s because we are drained. If one teacher can’t teach 7 subjects in a year span then us students should not have so much homework for all the classes we must take. There is not enough time in the day to do all of our classwork, homework, extracurricular activities, some of us work, and do anything we may be expected to do in our home lives while getting a decent 9 hours of sleep at least. Most people I know including myself end up with countless all nighters just to keep themselves afloat in their classes. I feel that us especially as high schoolers since more is expected from us and we are a lot closer to the great life after high school deserve a little break. Depending on schools and their bell schedules it may differ. However we deserve a study hall. A time for us to catch up on classwork that may be piling up and do any homework we can do. Now it doesn’t have to be much. It could be as simple as a 30 minute period. For those with block schedules the schools could take 10 minutes out of the 3 90 minute classes and put that towards a study hall. We just need more time to do all that is asked of us. We can not keep staying up at all hours of the night, getting barely if any sleep every night and putting our health on the line. So I ask you to sign this petition and maybe we can make change for those to come.
