Gorsefield primary school have introduced a new policy in regard to packed lunches, within this new policy children are no longer allowed to bring in any sugary foods at all. This includes no flavoured water, no biscuits, crisps, cereal which may have a high sugar content, these are just a few minute changes actioned.

Every parent is in favour of healthy lifestyles and balanced diets but we believe these changes are far too harsh and unnecessary. Restricting certain foods within primary school ages can encourage unhealthy relationships with food and more so eating disorders.

Schools are meant to be encouraging children to be autonomous, yet with this new policy they are taking away this from our children and not considering freedom of speech.

This policy has not been discussed with children or parents, giving us an opportunity to raise our concerns and discuss potential compromise.

School dinners are not following the same guideline, nor are the teachers and all visitors. So why are they discriminating against our children and our choices as parents?

These are our children and we decide what we feed our children, it does not affect their education so the school should not have an issue, concentrate on educating our children academically.
